A healthy diet requires not only enough calories, but the nutrients necessary to keep people healthy and allow children to grow. While outright starvation is rare in Liberia, malnutrition is still a major problem resulting in stunted growth and susceptibility to disease.

The best source of nutrients is a diet high in fruits and vegetables. Liberia is able to produce a wide range of vegetable crops, ranging from those well known to Westerners, such as eggplant, to those that would never be found in an American grocery store, such as bitterball.

We are assisting in the production of vegetables by providing quality seeds, technical expertise and assistance with irrigation which is critical to crop production in Liberia’s dry season.
