Jenneh Farms has established and is operating along with Agriculture and You a training farm, the West African Center for No-Till Agriculture International (WALCENTAI), near Tugmanburg in Bomi County, serving multiple purposes.
As a functioning farm growing various crops including rice, vegetables and trees, the underlying purpose is to provide experiential training to graduates of Liberian schools in the practicalities of working on and running a farm. WALCENTAI will also provide short term courses to existing farmers on more effective farming techniques.
Secondly, WALCENTAI will operate a seed multiplication site so high quality imported seeds can then be multiplied to the volume necessary to supply our farming communities and others.
WALCENTAI will serve as a test location for new technologies before introducing them to our farming communities. For example, we are now experimenting with various irrigation strategies to determine which ones will succeed in the field. Farming communities have very little margin for error, so we want to be as sure as we can be that any innovation will be successful before being introduced.
Fish Ponds
Tilapia and Catfish have proven to be an excellent source of protein to add to the Liberian diet and with the support of Jenneh Farms and guidance from Agriculture & You, developing fish ponds have created a successful “crop” for farmers.
